Bare Acre Farm is not registered as organic by any registering body, however, we farm by organic principles and invite our customers to visit our farm and see exactly how we do things.
At Bare Acre Farm, we are passionate about growing chemical-free food for our local community. We sell through our farm shop and growing box scheme, delivering directly from the farm to doorsteps across North Fingal and further afield.
Farming for Our Family & For Yours
Our love affair with local, seasonal food began in our garden where Dave grew vegetables organically for our own family. Ber prepared this food in our kitchen, making healthy meals and turning any surplus into pickles, jams, and other preserves. A few years later, we still grow organically, but now on a much larger scale for a much larger community. The emphasis on chemical-free, seasonal food remains unchanged, and we put the same passion into growing food for your family as we do for our own. Ber's kitchen has also expanded alongside our farm and her home baking, jams and preserves have become favourites among our new friends and customers. Today, she produces several thousand jars of pickles, jams, and relishes from local produce, as well as ethically sourced ingredients from across the globe.
Bringing Our Farm To Your Home
In 2024, we set out to source and grow vegetables for home-delivery vegetable boxes. For us, this was a leap of faith. We were told people liked what we did, and the demand for homegrown produce seemed to be there; however, meeting that demand required more land than we had. This meant renting land that had been conventionally farmed for many years. Thus began a process of remediation, converting near-dead soil to rich living earth that would produce the quality of vegetables we wanted and that we felt our customers wanted too. The process is ongoing, but we now supply weekly produce boxes to over 180 families in Fingal, with plans to increase that to 300 families in 2027. For us, the soil is the foundation of what we do; it feeds our crops, so it needs to be nurtured just as our crops are. We don't use chemical fertilisers on the farm; instead, we feed our soil with a mix of rich compost and cover crops. This process allows us to grow healthy, nutrient-dense vegetables for our farm shop and produce boxes. We grow a diverse range of crops, including more than forty different vegetable crops throughout the year. We also grow cut flowers for our customers. This diversity attracts not only pollinators but also beneficial predators such as ladybugs and parasitic wasps. This creates a balance where healthy crops grown in healthy soil see little to no predation, so pesticides are not used and are not necessary on the farm.
Flowers & Cauliflowers
We grew cut flowers on the farm from the very beginning because both Dave & Ber have always enjoyed having them in their own home. We also believed our customers would appreciate affordable, beautiful cut flowers, and that they would add colour and scent to our farm shop. We now grow flowers in four large tunnels and on about a quarter of an acre of outdoor space. Originally, Dave & Ber cut and conditioned the flowers and then, after a long day on the farm and in the kitchen, bunched them into simple bouquets. In 2025, Lynette Kelly joined our team as our in-house florist and, with craft and good humour, changed our simple farm flowers into something else entirely. Lynette now creates fabulous bouquets for our shop customers and box customers, and makes special arrangements for weddings, funerals, and more, on request. We grow our flowers organically, with the same care and attention to detail as our vegetable crops.
