Introducing the Bare Acre Farm CSA

We are excited to launch our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program starting in May 2025. CSA is a new way for our local community to enjoy fresh, seasonal produce while also supporting our farms mission of sustainability.

What is a CSA?

A CSA allows you to become a partner in the farm’s growing season. Members (or “shareholders”) purchase a subscription at the beginning of the season, which gives them a regular share of the farm’s harvest. Each week, CSA members receive a box of fresh, organically grown vegetables and other farm products.

By joining the Bare Acre CSA, you’re not just buying vegetables—you’re investing in your local food system and helping us grow a more sustainable future.

How Does It Work?

  1. Express your interest: From May 2025 We will be offering weekly shares in various sizes to suit your household, plus the flexibility to add extras like free-range eggs, Ber’s homemade jams and bread as well as farm fresh flowers for those who would like to include them. (For logistical reasons, flowers require a second subscription as the season is slightly different)

  2. Get Fresh Produce: Every week  we will harvest a box of seasonal produce just for you. Your boxes will include a mix of staple vegetables like carrots and potatoes, alongside surprises like heirloom tomatoes, courgettes, scallions and salads all grown organically right here on the farm. We will also include some produce from trusted local growers and we will add some surprises to your box from time to time. (Think fresh garden peas in May)

  3. Pick Up Your Box: Collect your share at our farm or have it delivered directly to your door. We’ll send out a reminder each week with a preview of what’s in the box, along with recipes and tips for making the most of your seasonal goodies

  4. Connect with the Farm: As a member, you’re part of the farm’s journey. We’ll invite you to events, open days, and farm tours where you can see how your food is grown, meet the farmers and your fellow CSA brothers and sister, you’ll even get a chance to get your hands dirty (if you’re up for it!).

Why Join?

  1. Fresh, Organic Food: Enjoy the best of seasonal, farm-fresh produce, harvested at its peak for flavour and nutrition.
  2. Support Local Farming: Your subscription helps us plan our season, reduce food waste, and continue practicing sustainable, regenerative farming methods.
  3. Get Creative: With every box, you’ll discover new vegetables and experiment with recipes using the freshest ingredients.
  4. Build Community: The CSA is about more than food; it’s about connection. You’ll join a community that shares a commitment to good, local food.

Some answers to common questions regarding a CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between farmers and community members. Members purchase a share of the farm’s harvest at the beginning of the season, and in return, they receive a weekly box of fresh, seasonal produce throughout the growing season. The model of selling helps farmers like us by providing us with financial security from the start to the end of the season, allowing us to plan our crops better and reduce waste. It also keeps us in close touch with the most important part of our business, you, our customer. For you, it means fresh, seasonal produce and a closer connection to where your food comes from. It’s a win-win that fosters a more sustainable local food system

You sign up for a subscription at the start of the season. Once the season begins, you’ll receive a share of our harvest every week, which you can pick up from the farm or which we can deliver to you

Each box contains a variety of fresh, seasonal vegetables and sometimes fruits. What you get depends on what’s growing that week—expect familiar staples like carrots, potatoes, and lettuce, along with occasional surprises. There is an overview of our anticipated harvest further down the page and we’ll also send out a preview of what’s in your box, along with recipe ideas each week.

Part of the CSA experience is embracing seasonal eating and learning to cook with what’s available. However, we understand that preferences vary. If there’s something you’re not keen on, you can always share or trade with other members or opt for more of one item and less or none of another, we will do our best to facilitate you. We also provide recipe suggestions to help you make the most of your box and we do recommend you try everything at least once. (We promise, all our vegetables are delicious once cooked properly)

You can collect your box from Bare Acre Farm on Saturday morning or you can arrange someone else to pick it up for you. Alternatively, we can deliver the box to you but this may incur a small charge and we can only deliver locally to Loughshinny, Rush, Lusk, Skerries and Balbriggan, if you are further afield you will need to collect from the farm. We would love to meet all our members and would like to introduce them to the farm so please do come to collect your box at least once.

Yes! There are two pause weeks built into each subscription. If you know you’ll be away, let us know in advance, and we will either pause your membership, arrange for someone else to pick up your box, or you can donate your share to a local charity.

As a CSA member, you share in both the rewards and the risks of farming. While we do our best to ensure a good harvest through careful planning and sustainable practices, unpredictable factors like weather can affect yields. In the case of crop failure, we’ll do our best to supplement your box with other produce from the farm or partner farms and you will not be left without some produce.

We use organic farming practices at Bare Acre Farm, meaning our crops are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. However, we are not registered organic. Furthermore, some produce included in our schedule may not be from our own farm and is not certified organic.

Our CSA boxes are designed to provide a well-rounded selection of seasonal produce with several vegetable items available at most times. What goes in a weekly box is dictated by season and it is difficult to offer customisation. You can however add extras like eggs, jams, bread and flowers when you sign up or during the season.

Don’t worry! We include recipe suggestions and cooking tips in our weekly newsletter to help you make the most of your CSA box. You’ll discover new ways to enjoy fresh, seasonal vegetables

You can’t sign up for our CSA just yet, but you can register your interest in becoming a member at the bottom of this page. Sign-up for our 2025 season will open in March and will be limited to 25 members for the first season. Those who have registered their interest will be given the option to subscribe first, so if you think this is for you, do register.

Yes! Our farm shop will continue to stock a wide variety of vegetables and other products, even if you’re not a CSA member. You can pop by and purchase fresh produce any time during our open hours.
